Colorado Springs is officially a Dementia Friendly Community!
Innovations in Aging Collaborative (IIAC) partnered with the Best Practices in Dementia group to become a member of the Dementia Friendly America network.
The Alzheimer’s Association predicts the number of Coloradans living with Alzheimer’s Disease will increase from 71,000 people in 2018 to 92,000 people in 2025. Our community needs to convene all our available resources and collaborate to make the city a better place to live for the growing number of people living with dementia. As a part of the Age Friendly Colorado Springs plan, IIAC and the Best Practice in Dementia Care Group have partnered to lead the dementia friendly initiative in Colorado Springs.
The mission of the Colorado Springs Dementia Friendly Community Initiative is to create a local community where people living with dementia are supported to enjoy a high quality of life with meaning, purpose, and value. We seek to foster a dementia friendly community by educating the community on the signs of dementia and how best to interact with a person living with dementia and by encouraging all sectors of the community to adopt dementia friendly practices.
