The Innovations in Aging Collaborative (IIAC), currently leading a project to make El Paso County more Age Friendly, is encouraging community members to participate in the centerpiece of its planning efforts: a free, half-day summit meeting on Thursday, November 17 from 9:30 to 2:30 at the Colorado Springs City Auditorium, 221 E. Kiowa.

“If you want to help make El Paso County a great place to grow up and grow older, we want you at this event,” said Judith Scott, UCCS assistant professor of nursing and co-chair of IIAC’s Age Friendly steering committee.

The event will include presentations by Jarett Hughes, Governor Polis’s Senior Policy Advisor on Aging, and El Paso County Commissioner Cami Bremer. IIAC representatives will describe the history of their work and the current planning effort. Attendees will then give their own input on Age Friendly needs and opportunities in small-group discussions on various priority areas.

Participants will be invited to turn input into action by signing up for one of the work groups that will help to compose the county’s Age Friendly plan. The final document is scheduled for submission to El Paso County and the City of Colorado Springs by March 2023.

Admission to the summit is free, and lunch will be provided to all who sign up no later than November 15. To register or for more information, contact IIAC at info@innovationsinaging.org or (719) 602-3815. Registrants may also indicate any dietary restrictions or language interpretation needs.

Stay tuned for the Age Friendly 2.0 Plan expected Spring 2023!
